Travel can be so much more than a break from daily life. When we move beyond sightseeing and open ourselves to people, cultures, and the living spirit of a place, travel becomes a mirror — revealing who we are and how we see the world. In this reflection lies transformation, awareness, and the quiet joy of truly connecting — both with others and with ourselves.
As you might have noticed, I changed the theme of my blog, just to try out how you (and I) like it.
But not just the blog theme and design is a game of trial and error for me. everything I do in my life at the moment seems to follow this theme. It’s not always easy to follow this direction though, since it does take a lot of time and effort to try out new things. Also the level of motivation drops when some kind of error occurs. I’m slowly getting used to the process though, and so stumbling and falling down isn’t such a big deal any more. At least most of the time.
I recently listened to a song by Milow that is called "Against the tide" and had an interesting revelation. To swim against the tide as used in the english language means "to do something that is in opposition to the general movement of things" or "to not follow what everyone else is doing". But the way I see it now - viewing the tide as a river - there are not two but at least three different ways of doing something or living your life in general.
I already started three vegetable beds last year, and extended my garden to house another four. I was planning on planting tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, peas, beans, carrots and a mixture of herbs. At the beginning of the year, my enthusiasm and motivation was great, but it diminished over time… mostly due to a very well known garden-pet: the slug!
Since the garden is in a rather musty and wet area there were huge amounts of slugs! They left my tiny and fragile tomato plants mostly alone – I guess that is due to the fact that they have a special odor, but everything else was gorged down in almost lightning speed (especially for a slug). My equally tiny and fragile cucumber and zucchini and pepper plants seem to be the most delicious thing the slugs had seen.
Is their name a coincidence? I can’t tell for the history of the word, but it is definitely true for my new strawberry-patch! A very dear friend contacted me and asked if I wanted 30 or so different kinds of strawberry plants. And who says no to such an offer? – not me!
So with the help of another dear friend, I prepared two beds, both 5×2 meters, then we layed out the black “mulching and anti-root” sheet and fixated it on the edges with soil. Usually, strawberries create offshoots around the mother-plant, where new independent plants will develop, which is usually a good thing. The sheet however keeps them from forming roots in the soil. This is necessary in my case, because I don’t want the different kinds of strawberries to mix.
It took me a while, but I finally finished the first draft of the interior design of my container tiny-house. Before I bought the container, I already had some ideas of how to organize everything on the inside, but the placement of the windows and the door limited my options greatly, so I had to re-plan the whole thing. I still haven’t figured out how to manage the windows on the short side, because the loft bed gets in the way of opening them completely. The height of the loft bed is kind of fixed, because with the container also came (among other furniture) two identical robust cupboards that I intend to use as base for the loft bed.
Just a short update: I finally have power in my container! During transport some connections were busted, and it took me forever to have it fixed. But now, there is no stopping me! It’s no “green” power yet, but that’s no priority for me at the moment. Soon some more updates will follow on my internal design, so stay tuned 🙂
I’m in love! When I first layed eyes on him about two weeks ago, it felt like time stood still and the only thing that mattered was this moment and him and me. I was walking with a friend and had to stop mid-sentence – my head was blank in awe. It was a perfect moment!
He’s quite a bit older, tall and perfect! I wanted to see him the next day, but my schedule didn’t allow it until yesterday. That wasn’t easy! I waited to mention that news here until I could show a picture as well. It will never do him justice, but I couldn’t not share the picture with everyone!
Additionally to my “big” and relatively new office container, I also additionally got an old construction trailer without axis or wheels. It’s only 4m x 2,2m (compared to the office container that’s the standard size of 6m x 2,5 m) and is only the aluminum shell with a makeshift floor and I’m not even sure if there aren’t any leaks in the roof. Also it is/was “a little” rusty in places. Here are some first impressions in her new place next to my living container:
The next adventure was to get the thing to the piece of land that I'm allowed to put it. Since these things are actually not that light, the crane from the transport company almost couldn't lift it!
